About Real Time Automation, Inc.
Real Time Automation designs industrial data connectivity products that move real-time machine data between PLCs, networks, historians, enterprise systems and Cloud applications. We build industrial protocol gateways, edge data historians and embedded connectivity software used on factory floors and inside OEM devices worldwide.
Customers use our products to connect devices with different network technologies together. Our products can move data between EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, BACnet, SNMP and other networks. Industrial controls engineers use our products to move data from these networks into Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC architectures.

WE Move your data
How We Came to Be
RTA’s founder, John S. Rinaldi, worked in all facets of manufacturing automation, including device development, factory floor controls and enterprise systems. He consistently found the same problems: complicated networking, difficult and slow deployments and poor after-sale support.
In 1989, he started Real Time Automation with a different focus. Make industrial networking products that are easy to configure and fast to deploy with engineer-level customer support as a core product feature, not an afterthought.
For more than 30 years, we have built connectivity products that solve real production problems. Our gateways move data reliably between machines and networks. Our embedded connectivity stacks put industrial communications directly inside OEM equipment. Our historians collect and publish real-time data for compliance, monitoring and operations.
Whether the need is protocol conversion, custom embedded controllers, specialized communications interfaces or factory-floor data aggregation, RTA delivers solutions that work the first time, ship when promised and move your data exactly where you need it.

What Customer Problems We Solve
Three common issues:
- Machines speak different protocols and cannot exchange I/O or configuration data.
- PLC data must be collected, normalized, modeled and published without rewriting ladder logic.
- Industrial devices require native Allen-Bradley and Siemens connectivity to meet OEM and machine-builder requirements.
RTA products solve these problems by reliably moving data between PLCs, machines, networks, historians, enterprise systems and cloud applications.
Every RTA gateway, historian and edge product provides:
- No Licenses / No Subscriptions
Removes recurring cost and IT approval cycles. - Easy Configuration
Ensures fast time to first-packet. - Products Always in Stock
Avoids long overseas lead times. - Same-Day Shipping
Find it, order it, deploy it, usually within 24 hours. - Live Enginerd Support
Direct access to real automation engineers. No queues. No tickets.
RTA Gateways are used to:
- Bridge incompatible networks including Modbus, EtherNet/IP, ASCII, BACnet, Modbus TCP and PROFINET.
- Move data into Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix and Siemens S7 PLCs, plus web clients and enterprise systems.
- Publish operational data to on-premise databases, historians, MES, SCADA and cloud platforms.
They give engineers a fast, reliable way to integrate old, new and mismatched equipment without rewriting ladder logic.
OEMs use RTA technology to add EtherNet/IP, Modbus, BACnet, PROFINET, PROFIBUS, OPC UA and MQTT to their devices without building or maintaining protocol stacks.
RTA provides:
- Embedded protocol circuit boards
- On-board communication modules
- Connectivity software
- Protocol-specific source code
This ensures your scale, actuator, valve, drive, power meter or custom device integrates cleanly into modern PLC architectures and is accepted by OEMs and machine builders.
- Factory-floor engineers who need fast, reliable protocol conversion
- Controls engineers deploying new equipment into legacy lines
- System integrators building mixed-vendor automation systems
- OEMs who require native A-B/Siemens connectivity
- Operations teams needing simple, compliant data collection
We make industrial connectivity simple.
Our products move your data between any machine, PLC, protocol, historian or enterprise system with the fastest time-to-value in the industry.
Our Customers
Since 1989, Real Time Automation has supported customers across manufacturing, OEM equipment design and system integration in the United States and around the world. Our products are used everywhere, from small specialty shops to Fortune 500 production facilities that rely on fast, reliable industrial data movement.
Engineers choose RTA because we solve practical connectivity problems on the factory floor. Whether the need is protocol conversion, PLC data collection, historian integration or OEM-grade embedded connectivity, we help customers move data between machines, PLCs, networks and enterprise systems with minimal effort and no surprises.
Every customer gets direct access to our Enginerd support team, fast shipping on in-stock products and solutions that work out of the box. That combination is why so many manufacturers and machine builders standardize on RTA for their connectivity needs.

Our People
RTA’s engineering team includes experts in industrial networking, embedded communications and protocol stack development. With hands-on experience across Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, BACnet and other industrial protocols, we understand how real manufacturing systems actually communicate, not just how they look on paper.
We’ve delivered solutions into packaging and converting, conveyor systems, drive control, power monitoring, plastics processing, mining automation, material handling and industrial test systems. That breadth of experience gives us a practical, end-to-end view of how data moves through machines, networks and production workflows.
Our goal is simple: build fast-to-deploy, cost-effective, low-risk connectivity products that get reliable data where it needs to go. Whether you need a gateway, a historian or embedded communications for your device, RTA works alongside you as your protocol partner, helping you move data with confidence and keep your operations running.
On Wisconsin!
RTA is headquartered in Pewaukee, WI, 30 miles west of Milwaukee. We wear green and gold to church on Sundays, consider beer and cheese a balanced diet, and believe 50°F is shorts weather, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
RTA products are made with American parts and assembled right here in the Badger State. Here are some fun facts about Wisconsin.
According to Wisconsin stories,
Wisconsin contains
