CIP in EtherNet/IP

OSI Network Model

  • Layers 5-7: CIP
CIP is an object-based protocol. Because all CIP networks use the same library of predefined objects, solutions from different vendors are compatible.
  • Layers 1-2: Ethernet
These layers are the same as Office Ethernet, with the physical layer more robust.
  • Layers 3-4: TCP/IP
These layers are also the same as Office Ethernet.
