Modernize Your DF1 Network with RTA’s 1761-NET-ENI Replacement
The powers that be are moving customers away from legacy A-B PLCs. Unfortunately, lots of machines remain reliant on DF1 communications. As a result, manufacturers are trying to milk every last drop of function out of their legacy PLCs and keep processes and systems running until it makes sense to upgrade to a new architecture.
The 515RTAENI extends the life of your DF1 devices to make your network modernization as seamless as possible. It is a direct replacement for the obsolete 1761-NET-ENI Ethernet interface and routes data between DF1 Allen-Bradley PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs and other devices, and your modern EtherNet/IP-based network.
515RTAENI Key Features
- Provides Ethernet connectivity for all DF1 serial (RS-232) controllers, PanelView Standard Terminals, and other DF1 full-duplex devices
- Communicates between Allen-Bradley Logix and legacy controllers
- Generates email messages via Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)
- Ability to easily upload and download programs using standard Rockwell Automation tools
- Writes to Ethernet controllers like ControlLogix
Advanced Features
The 515RTAENI goes beyond the 1761-NET-ENI to provide additional features and functionality including:
- Web browser-based configuration and diagnostics
- Up to 6 TCP/IP connections in each direction
- Support for string data types
- Improved diagnostic functionality
How Does the 515RTAENI Move between Legacy DF1 PLCs and Modern PLCs and Devices?
The 515RTAENI is an Ethernet interface module (EMI) designed to be a drop-in replacement for and advancement of the 1761-NET-ENI, encompassing most of the same features as the Allen-Bradley 1761-NET-ENI and 1761-NET-ENIW and exposing additional data transfer options the NET-ENI never allowed.
To facilitate DF1 to EtherNet/IP communication, use the 515RTAEN’s simple browser-based configurator to create a routing table that maps your DF1 nodes with IP addresses. If you prefer, you can use the original NET-ENI configuration software (though we think our browser configuration is superior). It’s really that simple.

What our Customers are Saying
“I challenged a customer to get it working by the time I got back from his break room with a Coke and he indeed had it working when I got back. He then said, "It’s worth twice the price!"”
Eric P. / Kendall Electric
“Everything seems to be working as we imagined. Thanks for the great response time. I did not see any way to save the configuration other than screen shots, but the configuration did not get lost in the update. Thanks again, and you were a pleasure to work with.”
Kevin L. / Extol, Inc.
