The 460ASC moves data between serial ASCII devices (RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485) and up to 5 Siemens S7 PLCs over the S7 protocol. As a result, you can integrate ASCII devices that output single-value ASCII strings (barcode readers, RFID devices, weigh scales, etc.) or compound ASCII strings (weather stations, UPS systems, etc.) into modern Siemens control networks without writing custom logic or downloading software.
How Does the 460ASC ASCII to Siemens S7 Protocol Gateway Move Data In and Out of the PLC?
In your Siemens S7 PLC, you define the address to which ASCII data will be written. Using a simple browser-based configuration, you define the makeup of your ASCII string and then watch it get delivered directly to your user-defined address of your PLC.
Need to send ASCII data from the S7 PLC to a display, printer or other serial device? Simply populate a second data area with the message you wish to send. The 460ASC will process and send data out to the display device when it sees a change of value.
If your ASCII device uses delimiters, the 460ASC can be configured to automatically remove them. If you need to parse your data, the 460ASC can parse a string of ASCII data in up to 50 segments by delimiter or offset.
