In a decision that may cause them to reconsider their membership standards, the Forbes Technology Council has accepted me as a member!
What does that mean?
It means that I get to write regular articles for Forbes.com. I get to bring my brand of practical, no-nonsense factory-floor truths, all those things that drive control engineers crazy, to their readers.
I’d really prefer to be Tom Clancy writing 500-page thrillers packed with cool technology. Unfortunately, he’s dead and he didn’t leave me his imagination in his will. Instead, my world is the struggle to capture machine data, make it usable and put it into the hands of people who can make decisions. Not Tom Clancy but still important.
Hot Off the Virtual Presses: My First Forbes Article
The modern manufacturing conversation centers around Smart Manufacturing, Digital Transformation and Industry 4.0 (5.0?). But none of that matters if you can’t standardize messy data, break vendor lock-in and get machines to talk to each other. That’s my passion. It’s what I find so interesting and compelling. Now, through Forbes, I get to bring that to the larger world.
Check out my Forbes Technology Council author profile and give my first article a read: The Real Reason Digital Transformations Fail in Manufacturing.
Spoiler: It’s not because we need more dashboards.
Let me know if you agree or tell me what I’ve missed.
