Ever wonder what a data model actually is? It’s one of those terms that mean different things to different people.
Years ago, I was in Europe when someone asked me about our company’s turnover. I happily replied ZERO thinking it was about the number of people that had quit. Well, in Europe turnover means revenue and I didn’t know that. It was more than a bit embarrassing.
Data modeling is like that. A confusing term that everybody uses with different levels of understanding. Unfortunately, this particular misunderstanding has some serious consequences.
Data Modeling: The Heart of Effective Manufacturing AI
Without consistent, standardized, well-governed data models, your manufacturing AI initiative doesn’t stand much of a chance. You can have the greatest AI algorithms in the world, but if they can’t make sense of your factory data, you’ve got a very expensive science project.
I dig into this in my latest Automation.com article, “A Solution Architect’s Guide to Driving Manufacturing Insights from AI”.
Give it a read and tell me what you think.
Am I right? Am I wrong? Or are we making data modeling a lot more complicated than it needs to be?
